Barcelona 2001
‘Science Based Patenting and Licensing’
IntroductionEvery year ASTP organises at least one course on a specialised subject. This year ASTP has chosen to explore in greater depth the complex subject of patenting and licensing within universities. Patenting and licensing within universities has proven to be not only technically involved but raises many complex issues. As the ASTP Survey of 2001 has shown, the experiences and aims within European universities differs strongly. Therefore we have decided to select contributions not only from universities but also from experienced patent attorneys and other law professionals. The program will bring news to tech transfer professionals who have just started their profession, as well as to professionals with long-standing experience. At the end of the conference a role play will help reinforce what’s discussed during the programme. |

The course will be held at the Campus of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, an innovative and progressive institution just outside Barcelona. Next to this attractive location Barcelona is chosen for it’s warm atmosphere at the Ramblas and its famous cultural spots created by Gaudí, Dalí, Picasso and many other artists. Therefore a combined social program at Wednesday afternoon is organised during which we will visit an innovative Incubator followed by a Gaudí-tour. We are convinced that this inspiring surrounding will create the right atmosphere to combine technical education and social interaction.
ASTP is looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona, bringing together old friends from universities, research institutions and companies and acquainting ourselves with some new ones. But most importantly, we look forward to sharing the complex aspects, insights and experiences with you related to the fascinating subject of science-based Patenting and Licensing.
