overview Technology Transfer is a multifaceted and complex process that generates a constant flow of scientific and technological developments from and between institutions and into society and constituting an engine of innovation and economic growth. This course will guide you through the basic processes of technology transfer, from receiving an invention disclosure to pitching for investment and negotiating deals.
Learning through a mixture of seminar-style, case studies and interactive analysis formats and immersed in an international environment you will learn essential frameworks and acquire the important skills needed to become a successful Technology Transfer Officer.
taking your skills to the next level If you have recently joined the profession you will be challenged with a range of technical, commercial and legal areas that require acquisition of knowledge development of a range of skills to allow you to become effective in your job and during the technology transfer process.
During this three-day intensive program course you will be able to learn how to: - Effectively evaluate new technology inventions - Productively manage Intellectual Property: the legal processes for patent protection, managing costs and confront the challenge of killing a patent - Understanding the industry perspective and communicating effectively with them - Marketing technology to find licensees and partners - Understanding different routes of commercialisation (license and spin-out) - Selecting appropriate agreements for industry/university collaborations, including regulation and management of IP in contracts - Structuring, reviewing and drafting license agreements – understanding the issues and pitfalls - Maximize value for all parties and by developing expertise at the negotiating table course programme
The Fundamentals of Technology Transfer is designed for people who are relatively new to technology transfer – TT- (including professionals from public as well as private institutions, entrepreneurs, consultants, etc) and who wants to build on their early experiences and develop a strong foundation of knowledge to draw upon. You will learn from experienced technology transfer professionals and participants will be provided with valuable networking opportunities.

The three-day course includes: coffee/tea, refreshments, lunches, joint dinner on Wednesday and course materials. The fee does not include overnight accommodation. Each participant is responsible for their own hotel booking.
junior arrangement As ASTP members, you can nominate two colleagues from the same organisation to join this Fundamentals course and they can benefit from the members fee. The junior arrangement enables you to send young professionals to our training course.
registration The maximum number of participants is 40. For online payment by creditcard, no administration cost will be charged to the course fee, however an administration cost of €25 will be charged if payment is done through bankwire. Please note that payment must be received at least two weeks before the course starts. Please register to the Fundamentals of technology transfer course via our webshop. cancellation policy Only 50% of the course fee will be refunded if a written cancellation is received before the 31st of August 2012. However no refunds will be possible after the 31st of August 2012. Substitutions by a colleague working at the same institution, may be made up to 3 weeks before the course and an administration cost of €95 will be charged.
